Angola state prison

(1/1)

"Most new prisoners begin working in the cotton fields. A prisoner may spend years working there before gaining a better job."

"Coffins for deceased prisoners are manufactured by inmates on the prison grounds. Previously, deceased prisoners were buried in cardboard boxes. After one body fell through the bottom of a box, Warden Burl Cain changed a policy, allowing for the manufacture of proper coffins for the deceased."

"A 2010 memoir by Wilbert Rideau, an inmate at Angola from 1961 through 2000, states that "slavery was commonplace in Angola with perhaps a quarter of the population in bondage" throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.[140] The New York Times states that weak inmates served as sex slaves who were raped, gang-raped, and traded and sold like cattle. Rideau said that "The slave's only way out was to commit suicide, escape or kill his master.""

I'm gonna be sick after just reading all that. Prisons REALLY need to be reformed.

In the attached PDF you posted, I was looking up some of the credits and the copyright is for a company that doesn't seem to be the same company. "National Company, INC" is hard to find and all I found is https://www.nationalcompanyinc.com/about.html which doesn't seem to be right.

I did find an Author who wrote a book about this subject named, Daniel Bergner which Google explains that he wrote about this prison. His personal website sells the book about it http://danielbergner.com/god-of-the-rodeo called, "God of the Rodeo" so I guess it is real :( if this is out there. After looking for a news article I found https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/books/98/10/18/reviews/981018.18appelbt.html?scp=87&sq=red%2520redemption&st=cse which also links to https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/books/first/b/bergner-rodeo.html so it seems its well known. It was also sited in a school paper seen here https://www.albany.edu/scj/jcjpc/vol7is2/simon.html if you want to read.

This post is simply to legitimize the information.

Here's another news article about a recent law suit for that prison.

I wasn't 100% sure they were a legit news company so I found Twitter confirms them https://twitter.com/wgnotv?lang=en

i got the pdf off of ocean county colleges online library resources. certain classes only allow sources from their online library, because they have been "screened" for false information.
Jason Flom a member of the innocents project has a podcast where they have talked about Angola state prison. its call wrongful conviction

the point of finding this information isnt to make anyone sick, but the information i find needs to not be ignored. we cant live our lives ignoring reality. these things need to change and people have to be held responsible for their crimes.

this is poem is on my mind alot

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
